Title - Sr. Network Engineer/Admin with expertise on IP Address Management (v6 a plus but not critical)
Location - St. Louis, MO
Duration - Long Term
If they're experts in the area they likely have the other supporting skill sets necessary. i.e. Able to work in a Unix environment and familiar with tasks associated with server administration and functional setup/configuration related to the subject matter (DNS and/or IP).
A general Job Summary:
Under general supervision, assists in the planning, forecasting, implementation, and identification of resource requirements for network systems basic to moderate complexity. Monitors protocol compatibility standards, develops and implements network enhancements and makes recommendations for improvement. Responsible for network architecture and design.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
- Participates in network planning, network architecture design and engineering
- Integrates communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations
- Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution
- Assists in the development and documentation of technical standards
- Implements approved methods of procedure
- Monitors protocol compatibility standards, develops and implements network enhancements and makes recommendations for improvement
- Works on projects/systems/issues of medium to high complexity surrounding network planning, configuration and optimization
- Provides tier support across organizations
- Works on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project team lead
- Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable
- Know, understand and follow company policy
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
- Ability to maintain and administer UNIX-based (*nix, Solaris, Linux) computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
- Knowledge of networking equipment and most open source services
- Expert knowledge of DNS Design, Operations and Support
- Expert knowledge of IP Address Management best practices (allocation, assignment, configuration, utilization, reporting/trending)
- Extensive experience with Load Balancer productions (Foundry, Brocade, A10, F5, etc)
- Expert knowledge of troubleshooting tools (i.e tcpdump, netstat, iostat, traceroute, snoop)
- Solid understanding of LAN/WAN topology, network protocols (TCP/IP, FTP, NFS, DNS and DHCP), switches and firewalls
- Advanced experience with IPv6 Design, Operations, and Support
- Experience with HSRP and various other redundancy protocols
- Experience with DHCP Services Design and Administration
- Experience with System monitoring application (Nagios, Solarwinds, HP OpenView, etc).
