Title : Oracle DBA

Location : Pittsburgh, PA.
Duration : 6+ months contract

 
As the Oracle Database Administrator you will be responsible for installing Oracle database software and creating Oracle 10G and 11G database environments. The Database administrator will be responsible for creating and configuring high availability RAC database clusters, specifying database data files, log files and configuration files, managing cluster file systems and ASM, setting up and monitoring RMAN backups, configuring Data Guard data synchronization, managing RAC failover and recovery. In addition you will be responsible for producing Oracle database architecture and design documents for the project environments. You must be available for 24X7 off hours and weekend support.

This position will support both internal and external customer databases in both single server and RAC environments. The candidate will also be required to possess in depth knowledge of both logical and physical database development with Oracle 10g and 11g databases.

Candidates must have the following skills and experience:

• More than five years of experience providing 24/7 DBA support on Oracle 10g and 11g databases with high-availability
•Must have experience with PL/SQL development and data modeling on Oracle 10g and 11g databases.
•Must be familiar with ER Studio.
• Experience with database backup / recovery using RMAN.
• Installation of Oracle 10g CRS and ASM, 11g Grid Infrastructure, and RDBMS software on Redhat Enterprise Linux.
• Create and maintain Oracle 10g and 11g RAC databases on Redhat Linux. Be able to troubleshoot Oracle 10g and 11g RAC database configurations.
• Experience with Oracle database upgrades and applying patches using rolling upgrade method.
• Experience with creating and maintaining Oracle 10g and 11g DataGuard on RedHat Linux.
• Performance tuning of Oracle 10g and 11g databases in both RAC and single instance environments. Must be able to use system / session statistics and wait events  to diagnose performance problems. Must be able to read the work load reports generated by OEM and identify performance problems.
• Familiar with Oracle Transparent Application Failover (TAF) configuration and testing.
• Experience with PL/SQL package design and implementation using Oracle 10g and 11g new features. This includes data type conversion such as VARCHAR2 to CLOB and VARCHAR2 to TIMESTAMP, modifying LOB data, and defining virtual private database (VPD).
• Familiar with 10g and 11g Data Pump and Export/Import utilities as well as file transferring mechanism.
• Be able to tune SQL code using SQL best practices and modifying the queries to reduce overall resource consumption.
• Be able to tune materialized views, indexes and the underline tables to enhance the DDL and DML process.
• Be able to diagnose resource consumption problems and justify the database resource plan.
• Experience in SQL*Net configuration including Oracle RAC service, load balance and automatic instance failover. Be able to troubleshooting the database connection

problem.
• Strong shell scripting skill in bash and ksh.
• Strong oral and written communications skills. Must be able to write root cause analysis reports, database maintenance plans and architecture and design documents.
• Oracle 10g or 11g OCP is preferred.
• Any Sybase experience is a big plus.
