Summary
The Build Manager is primarily responsible and owns assembling all the components of a Nucleus software application into an installable software product. Build Manager is a gatekeeper of any artifacts which move into the controlled environments (such as QA, UAT and Production)
Responsibilities
- Defines documents and maintains the Nucleus build process and development environment and standards. Ensuring the accurate tools (versions, plug-in, etc.) and configuration are installed and are in sync. Making sure the required configuration changes are propagated to the controlled environments.
- Preparing and managing the source code control systems and defect tracking system. Developing an effective source code (includes configuration) control strategy for parallel development using versioning, branching, labeling, merging etc. for multiple releases.
- Working with the Development Manager over the build calendar for each release and the Code Migration Manager over the code migration schedules. Responsible for communication of build management activities to all the build stake holders.
- Manages and executes the Nucleus builds, which includes gathering, compilation of source code/configuration, deploying in the development environment, creation and testing of deployment package (i.e. build logs, BOM, configuration, deployment details, etc.)
- Develops and executes Build Verification/Acceptance tests. Collaborating with the Development manager and QA manager to ensure the Unit, System Integration testing and Regression testing is completed as part of each build.
- Identify automation opportunities for the various build steps with the use automated build, testing tools and continuous integration.
- Drives continuous improvement of build and configuration management
- Works with development and QA to identify and prioritize process improvements
- Apply best practices and technologies for Build
- Develop and utilize tools such as build dashboards and metric reports
- Supports and integrates with QA process.
Education
- Bachelor's degree and/or five years of experience in a senior role in software build management team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Minimum 5 years in software build management in large software organization.
- Demonstrated mastery of build and release engineering principles and methodologies including source code management, defect tracking, testing, and archive/retention practices.
- Hands on expertise with SVN, HPQC, nmake, Scripting, Hudson, Cruise Control, etc.
- Hands on experience in Cold Fusion, SQL Server, Windows and Web development and deployment.
- Very strong planning and organizing abilities with exceptional attention to detail
- Very strong problem solving and debugging skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a distributed team setting.
