The Sr. Unix Systems Administrator provides expertise in the architecture, designing and planning for Unix-based servers and network communications, including defining, documenting and implementing standards, policies and procedures. The ideal candidate works independently on most assignments, exercising judgment in selecting methods to accomplish results.

 Additionally, the Sr. Unix Systems Administrator:

·         Collaborates with Unix team to design and architect optimal Unix server networks, including software and hardware. Reviews new technologies to improve and streamline existing processes.

·         Provides outstanding service to the application development team (both in house and offshore) including hardware and software support.

·         Designs scalable fault tolerant solutions and automates key procedures and processes. Builds environments to provide flexibility in operating software allocation and enhance software and application deployment processes.

·         Prepares policies and procedures, and develops and maintains comprehensive documentation for efficient operations in multiple environments including Disaster Recovery.

·         Performs capacity planning analysis on existing environments and analyzes results of regular reports to determine needs based on current network load and future growth requirements. Makes recommendations to purchase or upgrade equipment or applications.

·         Makes recommendations/proposals to management to improve performance and reliability of the system.

·         Provides second or third level technical support, including diagnosing and resolving pre-production and production issues while taking action to avoid reoccurrence.

·         Writes scripts to automate manual processes in the environment such as system management, monitoring, application deployments and user management.

·         Updates existing system and general application smoke testing procedures and documentation

·         Collaborates with application development teams and support application servers and middle-wares configurations, implementations and deployments.

 Characteristics Needed:

·         Expert level knowledge of Unix based networks and servers.

·         Hands-on experience with Sun, IBM based enterprise level systems specifically IBM PowerSystems 570, IBM x series.

·         Advanced skills in scripting languages.

·         Strong knowledge of data center environmental and performance monitoring concepts and practices.

·         Strong knowledge of operating system internals, file system structures and machine architectures in a UNIX operating environment (i.e. RedHat Linux, AIX, and Solaris).

·         Excellent troubleshooting and problem diagnosis skills. Ability to architect solutions to meet existing and future needs.

·         Experience running mid-size 24x7 production systems and with enterprise backup systems (i.e. Symantec Netbackup).

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills to work effectively as a team and respond to customers. Ability to share knowledge with team members.

·         Flexibility in working off-hours for system patching, maintenance, and unscheduled outages.

·         Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines and requests.

Requirements:

·         Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience.  At least 7 years related experience.

·         Industry certifications (i.e. RedHat, AIX, Solaris and WebSphere) are preferred.

·         On-call rotation (i.e. every 3-4 weeks) required and scheduled quarterly maintenance may require some week nights and/or weekends. Remote support for escalated/on-call production issues including offshore
