Description:
This is a Sybase DBA position. We are targeting on-boarding on 5/1/12 with their contract running through 3/31/13.
We're looking for a hands-on database technologist with both database administration and database development experience. Advanced expertise in performance tuning activities and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, able to drive tasks to completion independently, and able to learn new skills on the job as project requirements expand.
Primary responsibilities:
* Supporting the day to day development activities by working with the application development team on database issues
* Performance tuning/troubleshooting complex queries and server performance issues
* Run system performance tests in the database lab
* Recommend improvements in the reporting and batch processing code based on analysis of system snapshots and database logs
* Participate in the production support activities on a 24x7 basis
* Participate database code reviews
Skills Required
* 5 years Sybase 12 and Sybase 15 experience on a UNIX platform (Solaris and/or AIX)
* 3 years or more experience in the database development lifecycle
* 3 years or more experience in design, development and support of large Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence related database applications
* 3 years database programming including stored procedure and trigger development
* Experience with VLDB (very large database) environments
* Strong SQL skills including the ability to rewrite complex queries to improve performance
* Ability to prioritize, multitask and work with onshore and offshore teams
Skills Desired
* Other RDBMS platforms (Oracle/Sybase/UDB) on UNIX is a big plus
* DataStage ETL development and administration
* UNIX and shell scripting skills
* Experience in a programming language is a plus
