Duration: 6+ Months

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

The Database Administrator position is a leadership position to lead, coach and mentor a core team focused on providing L2 support for a hi-tech company. This core team will be responsible for application maintenance and support and related database administration functions for very large relational databases in a complex environment. As a member of this team, the DBA will focus to maintain and implement scalable systems and databases supporting Business solutions for on-going maintenance of Quote to Cash applications linked to company portal(s) and associated partner portals.

 

Candidates must be experienced in managing production releases with minimal input, monitoring production system and integration points including performance improvements. Some of the core skills expected are: Deep knowledge of Oracle R12 app DBA/SysAdmin, SQL tuning of complicated queries generated by applications (J2ee and or OAF/ADF based), BI tools; including physical database design; administration of development and production objects in a change control fashion; creation of users and databases; assignment of appropriate privileges; back-up and recovery using Netbackup; implementation of security functions for compliance; monitoring system resource utilization, and development of performance and capacity plan to proactively determine if the system is capable of support future growth. The DBA will work closely with the Data Architects, Application developers, other TSG Engineers and vendors to develop database design, Implementation, and support of these critical systems. Development skills and SQL coding using best practice is a must.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Build, Maintain and support databases/instances required by application, vendor and design teams.

·         Install and configure Oracle Databases in a RAC configuration including replication between local and across data centres

·         Provide daily development support to application teams including database connectivity, configuration (index creation, database layout, schema changes) and Data migration.

·         Provide performance monitoring during all phases of the Application's development lifecycle.

·         Responsible for trouble shooting Database issues including collecting information through traces and other logging facilities.

·         Provide database and SQL tuning expertise through recommendation to application developers, vendors and other core Application teams.

·         Provide Database configuration for optimal performance including Database Partitioning.

·         Provide complete and thorough documentation and run books to production DBAs (Run Team).

·         Develop database backup and recovery strategies for the application.

 

Qualifications:

·         BS/BA in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related.

·         R12, Application DBA support

·         Installation (R12 RAC) , cloning, patching, upgrade, localizations

·         Operating Systems: HP-Ux, IBM-AIX, RedHat EL Linux, Oracle EL Linux, MS Windows 2003 Server.

·         Oracle 11g Certified preferred minimum 9i certification essential

·         8+ years of relevant Oracle 9i (exposure and experience to 10g and 11g required) and above database administration experience handling 15+ Industry size databases.

·         Experience in database design, Application Development, SQL tuning, and performance analysis of large databases.

·         Candidates must have in-depth understanding of Join methods, data access path, and trace gathering.

·         Experience in backup and recovery design using Netbackup with large databases

·         Experience with Linux (OEL, Redhat and SUSE) and Unix AIX.

·         Demonstrated skills working with Application Servers (OAS, Websphere or Weblogic preferred).

·         Experience with ETL Solutions (Datastage, Informatica) and BI Tools (OBIEE preferred) is a plus.

·         Must be able to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks (at any layer) on the server supporting the database including identifying SQL performance issues.

·         Must be able to install and configure Oracle Databases using RAC and other tools and utilities (DataGuard, Grid Control and Oracle Streams).

·         4+ years' experience with direct development support. Must be able to write and run code using SQL or PL/SQL

·         Demonstrated use of Unix scripting language, Stored Procedures, Triggers and Views.

·         Experience with a second DBMS (especially UDB) is highly desirable.

·         Results oriented, willing to take responsibility and accept accountability for action.

·         Genuine desire to provide superior customer service.

·         Strong communication and leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to lead and influence technical professionals across the enterprise.

·         Comfortable with ambiguity as needs change on a regular basis with a high degree of initiative and sense of urgency.

·         Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to interact with senior management, technical subject matter experts, and business customers are essential in this role.

·         Ability to work on multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously.

·         Strong understanding of ITIL service support and service delivery.

Good to have skills

·         Experience in managing webcenters , Weblogic 11g

·         Experience in working on RHEL5 and other flavors' of unix.

·         Comfortable with DR setup and maintenance.

·         Hand's on experience on using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for monitoring Application and Database

·         Usage of HP- Kintana Migration tool
