Job Description:
The Tivoli System Engineer works under the general direction of the Infrastructure team to design,
document, implement and maintain the Tivoli Monitoring stack of software. The Engineer should have
at least five years' experience in ITM and monitoring environments on multiple platforms. The ideal
candidate must be self-starting, works well with related architects and administrators and meets
deadlines as negotiated. The ideal candidate will work both alone and in design sessions with other
architects to design the final monitoring solution, will provide informal skills and knowledge transfer to
customer personnel and be able to articulate the design affirmatively to diverse groups.
Required Technical Skills
1. Expert Knowledge IBM Netcool OMNIbus (Design, Implementation, Configuration, and Management)
and (lesser requirement)
2. Expert Knowledge IBM Netcool ITNM (Design, Implementation, Configuration, and Management) or
3. IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6
4. Expert Knowledge IBM Netcool TNPM (Design, Implementation, Configuration, and Management)
(optional)
5. Expert Knowledge Perl and scripting are useful for Impact
6. Expert knowledge of Unix/Linux administration, networking and protocols, SNMP, ping, traceroute,
TCP/IP and IPv6
7. Expert Knowledge of networking environments, operating systems, relational databases, application
environments (Java, .NET, etc.), and key vendor environments
8. Knowledge of IT process framework and practices (for example, ITIL)
9. Knowledge of common network services (DNS, DHCP, SNMP)
Preferred Technical Skills and Certifications
1. IBM Certified Advanced Deployment Professional - IBM Service Management Network and Service
Assurance
2. IBM Certified Advanced Deployment Professional - IBM Service Management Service Availability and
Performance Management
3. IBM Certified Administrator - Tivoli Monitoring
Required Skills
Candidate must have excellent written and verbal skills
Must be able document and articulate to others key issues in his technical arena
Ability to work independently and solve major technical problems in their area of expertise
Ability to take the lead in problem solving and coordination of multi-disciplinary groups
Ability to drive problem resolution through vendor escalation channels for his product area
Ability lead and constructively participate in white board type design and review sessions
Ability to rapidly evaluate and learn new software products within the assigned system and network
monitoring arena
Must have the ability to contribute to the overall project design by understanding and communicating
points of interface.
Must have the ability to work with performance specialists to tune the monitoring environment for
optimal operating efficiency
Requires BS/BA in related discipline (i.e., Senior Engineer, Software Design and Development) and 5 or
more years of experience in related field (i.e., Solution Architecture Design) OR MS/MA and 3-5 years of
experience in related field. Will consider additional related industry experience in lieu of degree.
