Role: Data Modeler

Duration: 1+ years

Job Description and Requirements:

A data modeler with no less than five years of experience in modeling business processes in an OLTP or Data Warehousing context is needed.  A successful candidate will possess extensive experience with Erwin and SQL Server 2008/12, and will be at ease with speaking directly to end-users to gather detailed requirements.  Additionally, experience in providing technical guidance and mentorship in the design of OLTP or DW data structures, and the ability to relay design decisions and implications to IT and business stakeholders is advantageous.

On a day-to-day basis, an individual in this role participates in sessions to finalize and clarify business requirements, works to translate these requirements into a conceptual data model, translates this conceptual model to a logical/physical model in Erwin, and, finally, delivers the finalized DDL to the development server(s).  Once delivered, the data modeler is responsible for modifying these structures based on input from the application development teams, and is responsible for the corresponding change management in Visual Studio/TFS.

These activities are done in a fast paced environment with very short delivery cycles, so an ability to assimilate requirements and deliver physical objects in accelerated time frames is absolutely essential.  For this reason, a successful applicant must be at ease with a fast-paced environment with aggressive delivery time lines.

Responsibilities:

·         The data modeler will be responsible for the creation of structures to store data received from application objects based on user requirements and system architecture inputs.

·         Recommends data strategies and provides technical guidance to the development teams, product owners, and other team members

·         Based on requirements, both technical and business, authors stored procedures to process and/or return data to application server objects

·         Maintains database performance by identifying and resolving existing and/or potential issues by evaluating performance parameters, usage patterns, and non-conforming code

·         Using Erwin, maintains the logical and physical data models as well as the data dictionary for all data structures and attributes

·         Will assist deployment engineers with database deployments using Visual Studio 2014

Required Technical Skills:

·         Five years of Data Modeling (logical and physical) experience in Erwin or equivalent modeling tool (ER/Studio, Rational Rose, etc)

·         Five years of database development (TSQL and store procedures) in SQL Server 2008 or 2012

·         Extensive experience with business process data modeling

·         Experience with SCM tools in a data modeling context

Desirable Skills:

·         Familiarity with Agile development processes is beneficial

·         Prior experience in modeling Accounting business practices is desirable though not required

·         Experience with database development and deployment using Visual Studio 2014 and Team Foundation Server
