Position : Java Developer
Location : NYC
Duration : 6 to 12months
Server Side Java, Open source technologies. Should have database knowledge either SQL Server or Oracle, any messaging is expected. Spring or a similar framework. DOES NOT NEED TO COME FROM FINANCE
Main Function
The Risk and Analytics function (R&A) was one of the first truly cross-asset teams, or "Horizontals" to be created within the Investment Bank. Comprised of over 900 people in 9 countries, our objective is to consolidate, streamline and simplify the generation, analysis and visualisation of Risk within the Investment Bank onto strategic, cross-asset platforms. Wherever possible we are taking and enhancing existing best of breed solutions from across R&A and migrating other asset classes onto those solutions.
The migration from a legacy, siloed, asset class specific environment to a shared, cross-asset, platform is a complex one and we're running that work as a programme. Within the programme there are a number of key work-streams including Risk Generation, Risk Publication, Market Data and Static Services, Trade Object Services, Streaming Pricing, Price Generation, Analytics Integration, and Excel & Risk Tools.
Main Duties
The candidate will be involved in full cycle of server development and server side process scripting.
Person Requirements
Must have at least 3 years of strong hands-on programming in core Java, and experience with standard APIs like multi-threading, JDBC, JMS and XML processing. Should have knowledge of object-oriented design techniques and common design patterns. Should be able to apply multi-threading or distributed server techniques to enhance server throughput and responsiveness. Experience using the Spring Framework or similar framework to implement stand-alone servers is a plus.
Experience required in relational database technology using Micrsoft SQL Server or Oracle, including SQL, table design, indexing techniques, stored procedures, transactions and performance optimization. Should be able to access the database via Java JDBC and have knowledge of persistence frameworks such as the IBatis, Hibernate or similar is desirable.
Knowledge of networking utilizing Java JMS apis and publish/subscribe messaging systems like Tibco Rendezvous and EMS. Should understand serialization techniques used to exchange object and non-object data over networks between Linux and Windows systems. Should be familiar with Web Services using Java via J2EE or similar framework.
Knowledge of maven and ant to build java programs and manage dependencies. Use of tools to optimize execution performance.
