Note: - Consultant will be working with SQL and Oracle however the Sybase is mandatory and needs to be recent

  

1.      Description

The Database Administrator is a member of the Relational Database Support team responsible for assuring reliable and predictable performance of all Lazard mission critical systems. The primary objective is to support all servers and applications that run on a scheduled basis, on all systems that support corporate Banking, Finance, Trading and HR operations.  The corporate computing resources include high reliability, networked, database servers in a distributed UNIX and Windows environment.

 

2.      Duties

Duties of the incumbent include, but are not limited to:

·         Diagnose and improve overall system and application performance to isolate and prevent, or recover from, system degradation or failure.

·         Research, define, and implement database related software patches and configuration changes to improve system reliability, consistency and performance.

·         Review new applications and/or upgrades to assure achievement of corporate service level commitments with regard to operations reliability, load, and stability, security and standards.

·         Implement, review and maintain RDBMS security settings and patches to achieve bank security standards.

·         Provide advice and guidance to the development community early in the development cycle to build "supportability" and "security" into new and/or revised applications.

·         Roll out new applications and upgrades developed by the internal development organizations and provide feedback to the development community regarding application performance and recommendations for improvements.

·         Provide advice and guidance to other members of the DBTS team based on the incumbent's area of specialization.

·         Convert legacy utility modules to current standards used by the DBTS group using programming and database tools as appropriate.

·         Install, analyze, and configure operating system and/or database products to achieve optimal system performance.

·         Develop and maintain applications and databases used by the DBTS group for internal group management tasks.

·         Serve as an active member of the "on-call" rotation.  The "on-call" rotation normally requires one/two 24-hour period per week and one/two weekends per month during which the incumbent must be available via pager for emergency support and consultation.

·         The incumbent is expected to stay current with industry developments, applications and technology relating to RDBMS support.

3.      Interfaces

The incumbent reports to the Vice President of Database Systems Support and interfaces on a regular basis with DBTS Support teams.  The incumbent regularly interacts with:

·         The Operations team responsible for supporting the daily batch processing cycles and all other members of the DBTS team.

·         Managers and members of the Development community to assist in the development and/or improvement of applications and/or utility modules.

·         Managers and members of the client community to diagnose requirements and identify improvements in system performance and customer satisfaction.

·         External suppliers and contracted support service providers.


4.      Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

·         A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Sybase/Oracle/MSSQL Database Administrator in a multi-node UNIX and Windows environment with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot database and system problems.

·         Working knowledge of SYBASE ASE15 systems and administration practices, including Replication Server15 and Sybase IQ15

·         Working knowledge of Oracle11g database systems and administration practices including RMAN and partitioning and Data Vault.

·         Working knowledge of Microsoft's SQL Server2008R2, including replication and mirroring.

·         Ability to program in Shell, PERL, and SQL languages.

·         Working knowledge of and experience supporting PeopleSoft's General Ledger Application will be an advantage.

·         Working knowledge of Notes, Microsoft and CA Technologies database products and the desire to learn various additional technologies and products in a growing environment.

·         Excellent oral and written presentation skills, to define and present system requirements and analysis.

·         Knowledge of financial business environments will increase the incumbent's potential for success.

·         Ability to work in a team environment and work closely with co-workers on mission critical projects.

5.      Education

At minimum, the incumbent must have a Bachelor's degree in a technical field of study relevant to the position and demonstrated capability to operate in a highly technical environment.
